Ms. Cohen
Middle School Technology

This year we will be using Windows Movie Maker 2 in the Middle School North Building lab.

For this project, we are combining your study of poetry in English class with the technology available to make creative and unique audiovisual presentations. These can take the form of "music videos" or you can opt for a more documentary style. You will be filmed reciting the poem of your choice and you will storyboard how you want your piece to look. You will include still pictures, music clips, and if you'd like, you can film extra digital video footage to add to the mood.

You can scan physical photographs and original art or find appropriate images on the Internet. If you intend to use anything you find online, you must cite your source. This will come in as credits as the end of your movie. You will be shown in class an easy way to keep track of your picture sources.

This is one of the most creative projects of the year and it is completely up to your imagination. If you have technical questions, ask or email Ms. Cohen. If you have content questions, ask or email Ms. Wit.

Use these handouts for the project:

A word on images and music. . .

You will be citing your source for every image you use that is borrowed from an outside source. You may use images that you find on the Internet as long as you record the URL to put in your credits at the end of your movie.

For audio files, you can use any music you have on CD that you bring in, but according to the Multimedia Fair Use Guidelines for Education, you can only use 30 seconds of any piece of recorded music. You can loop that same 30 seconds, or blend two or more different songs in the timeline of your movie, or just use a song for part of your movie.

There are very few web sites that offer completely Royalty Free music for use in projects. Take a look at these sites:

RoyaltyFreeMusic.Com

Doktor Benway's Music

IAMusic.Com

Please just listen to the tracks available. Do not download them. If you find one you like, let me know in class or TAP and we will get it to your project. Many of these tracks are electronica and may not be your favorite choices. In that case, please look through your CD collection and find something that you can bring in.

You are encouraged to use music, instrumental or voice, that you have performed and recorded yourself. If you are interested in this option, please see Ms. Cohen.
